Mirissa Beach, curving around a sheltered bay on Sri Lanka’s southern coast between Weligama and Tangalle, offers calm inshore water conditions suitable for a range of activities. The bay faces south and is partially protected by a rocky headland to the east, making the western section one of the calmer swimming beaches on the south coast during the north-east monsoon season (November to April). The beach retains an active fishing community alongside its tourism facilities, with outrigger canoes visible on the sand most mornings.

Mirissa Water Sports operates activities directly from the beach including jet skiing, banana boat rides, glass-bottom boat excursions, and guided snorkelling over the rocky reef patches inshore. Sea turtles — including green turtles and hawksbill turtles — are frequently spotted in the waters around Mirissa. All marine turtles in Sri Lanka are protected under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance and must not be touched, fed, or disturbed.
