The Ella Rock hike is widely regarded as the finest hiking experience in Sri Lanka’s southern highlands, and this guided tour ensures you experience it to the fullest. Departing from Ella town, the trail climbs through tea estates, bamboo forest, and jungle paths to reach the summit of Ella Rock at around 1,041 metres — a spot that delivers panoramic views across the valley, over the famous Ella Gap, and back toward the nine peaks of the Knuckles Range on clear days.
The ascent takes roughly two to three hours at a comfortable pace, with experienced local guides who navigate the unmarked trail and share knowledge of the local flora and history. The best time to begin is early morning before 7am, when the air is cool and the mist is still burning off the valleys below. The tour finishes back in Ella in time for a well-earned lunch.
