Cinnamon Lodge Habarana occupies 26 acres of forest in the very heart of Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle — the ancient landscape that contains Sigiriya, Dambulla, and the ruins of Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura. Wild elephants move freely through the resort grounds, and it is not uncommon to wake in the morning to find a small herd browsing between the bungalows. This is one of the few resorts in the world where elephant encounters happen without engineering or scheduling.
The 138 rooms and chalets are spread through the forest with generous spacing between them, connected by winding paths lit softly at night. The swimming pool is set in a natural clearing, and the open-air restaurant serves a thoughtful blend of Sri Lankan and international cuisine. Cinnamon Lodge sits within easy reach of all the region’s major sites: Sigiriya Rock and the Dambulla Cave Temples are 30 minutes away, the Minneriya and Kaudulla national parks — where the famous Elephant Gathering concentrates hundreds of elephants around the reservoir from August to October — are within 45 minutes.
